Join a respected panel of industry professionals helping recognize excellence across Ontario’s residential construction industry. As an OHBA Awards of Distinction judge, you will evaluate some of the province’s top projects, innovations, and marketing initiatives while contributing to the credibility and prestige of one of Ontario’s premier housing awards programs.
Judging Eligibility & Requirements
To maintain the integrity and professionalism of the OHBA Awards of Distinction (AoD) program, all judges must meet the following requirements:
- Judges must be current or retired professionals within Ontario’s residential construction industry.
- All judges are required to sign a Conflict of Interest and Non-Disclosure Agreement prior to participating in the judging process.
- In the event of an actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest, OHBA reserves the right to recuse a judge from specific categories or submissions.
- If you and/or your company plan to submit to the AoD program, or if you will be credited on any submission, you must disclose all applicable submissions and categories prior to judging.
- Judges must commit to completing all assigned evaluations within the designated judging window.
Judging Process
- Judges will be assigned to a grouping of approximately 5-6 categories, representing an estimated 45-50 submissions in total.
- Each category grouping is evaluated by a minimum of three independent judges.
- Entries are reviewed and scored based solely on the published judging criteria for each award category.
- Each judging criterion is weighted equally unless otherwise noted within the category requirements.
- Scores are submitted through the online AoD Judging Portal.
- Judges may review submissions individually or use the portal’s comparison feature to evaluate multiple categories side-by-side.
- Once judging is complete, final scores are locked by the judges and submitted to OHBA for finalist verification.
Confidentiality & Professionalism
All submission materials, scores, and judging results are strictly confidential.
Judges are expected to:
- Evaluate submissions objectively and professionally.
- Respect the confidentiality of all materials and participant information.
- Avoid discussing submissions, scores, finalists, or results outside of the official judging process.
- Notify OHBA immediately if a conflict of interest arises during judging.
